Adam woke up. Of course he did. What else was there to do? It was what everyone else had done, so why shouldn't he? It would be a little strange for him not to wake up, if you ask me. You already know who Adam is, of course, but Adam would like to introduce himself. I mean, it would be a little unusual for him not to, wouldn't it?
My name is Adam. I'm your run-of-the-mill, completely average, totally normal high school age guy. Average on the inside, average on the outside. What you see is what you get. There's really not much to say about me at all!
Adam is right. There is not much to say about him because he is incredibly boring. His life is as dull as his mind.
The date was what you would expect. April the thirteenth, as always. The year was unimportant. Adam began his day by getting out of bed and texting his friend.
ADAM: Hey, you up?
LUCY: yeah
ADAM: Are you ready for another adventure?!?! :D
LUCY: i guess
LUCY: but we just finished our last adventure
ADAM: Let's meet up by the cave!
LUCY: alright
Adam went through the motions of getting ready in the morning. Imagine it yourself, I'm sick of writing it for you over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and... Oh... Sorry.
Adam finished packing his backpack and went outside. He began walking toward the cave. And then he got there. Later. He didn't get there right away. Wait wait wait let me try that again, shit. A while later, he arrived at his destination. He waved to his friend.
ADAM: Hey Lucy!
LUCY: Hey.
ADAM: Got everything you need?
LUCY: Yeah.
ADAM: Are... you doing okay?
LUCY: I'm fine.
ADAM: Okay...?
ADAM: Well, let's go!
The two of them entered the cave. Adam pulled out his phone and used it as a flashlight to illuminate the walls.
ADAM: Woah, look at this...
I discovered many marks etched into the wall to create an elaborate mural of ancient drawings. I lifted my hand up to touch them and realized that many portions of the wall could be pushed into small depressions.
ADAM: There must be some sort of combination that would allow us to pass through a hidden door!
LUCY: Great.
ADAM: I bet there's a ton of clues in here that will help us!
ADAM: And we're going to have to solve lots of other puzzles to get those clues!
ADAM: And then-
LUCY: Shut up.
ADAM: Huh?
LUCY: Just press the bear pictures on the wall.
LUCY: Then the door will open.
ADAM: Wha... How could you even know that?
LUCY: Just do it.
He did as he was told.
A hidden door opened, just like Lucy told me it would. I couldn't understand.
LUCY: Don't follow me. You won't like what you see.
ADAM: Huh...? Wait, Lucy, what is going on here?
LUCY: Goodbye.
And she was gone.
I stood there for a long time. She told me not to follow so I did not. But it was getting late. And I didn't want to leave her there. So I entered the door. And I saw... I saw...
I saw...
I saw...
I saw...
I saw...
I saw...
I saw...
I saw...
I saw...
I saw...
I saw...
I saw...
A bloodbath.
Some time later, I realized that I wasn't screaming anymore. And a long time later, I stopped crying.
I left the cave.
And bumped into someone.
?????: Hey, don't look so down, buddy.
?????: It can't be all that bad, now can it?
I only stared at him.
?????: Hey. Adam. Buddy.
?????: The name's Zenon.
ZENON: And I know you think you're in this "awful" situation or whatever, but it's seriously not as bad as you think.
ZENON: Okay, sure, your only friend in this world is dead, and yeah, that sucks.
ZENON: But at least you're not dead, yeah?
ADAM: ...what if want to be?
ZENON: Oh, buddy, non non.
ZENON: That's no way to be thinking now.
ZENON: See-
ADAM: What do you want from me?
ZENON: Okay, okay, I'll just get to the point.
ZENON: Take a look at this.
He handed me a strange device. All that was on it was an LED and a button that read "<==".
ZENON: This bad boy will take you back in time.
ZENON: See what I'm getting at here?
I don't know why, but I believed him.
ADAM: So I just have to push the button, and I'll go back in time?
ZENON: You've explained it better than I could.
I looked at the device.
ZENON: What are you waiting for? Onward, to a hopeful past.
